Earth House
Earth House, which currently houses the nonprofit Usona Institute, is the former home of Dr. Johan Bjorksten who founded Bjorksten Research Laboratories in Fitchburg in 1948. In 1979, Promega founder Bill Linton rented lab space from Bjorksten (in a building now known as The Upper Lab) and grew the company from there. He eventually purchased the Bjorksten property and the home became known as Earth House since it was originally a concrete bunker built into the hillside. The remodeled home features Brazilian wood floors, custom-made cabinets, a fireplace, and a wine closet.
