College of Education

Dean's Welcome Dr. Marlene Zipperlen, Ed.D The issues are clear in the educational field for every citizen and stakeholder in Texas. Severe teacher shortages, budget deficits within 10 years, and an alarming dropout rate are but a few of the areas of major concern. Regardless, the faculty and students at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, College of Education are among the most optimistic people you will ever meet. What an opportunity to make a difference in our state and in our nation through the development of excellent teachers for the classrooms and for other public and private arenas. Professional principles and Christian values are an integral part of the teacher certification programs. The education program is about evaluation, self-study, organizational change, and ultimately earning public trust. We continually change to meet the needs of our current and future students. We believe these fine young Christian men and women will ultimately influence the public commitment to education as they prepare to educate the next generation of Americans. We believe that education enhances the workforce which leads to better jobs and strengthens our community and our economy. Our goal is to continue to be a good partner with the public and private schools by providing caring, competent and committed teachers to staff their schools. Mission Realizing that education is the avenue for transmitting our cultural heritage to succeeding generations and that modern advances should be incorporated with successful techniques of the past, the education faculty of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor accepts the responsibility for teacher preparation for each candidate as follows: 1. Acquire the knowledge to thrive in today's challenging classroom. 2. Mold valuable attitudes. 3. Develop effective leadership characteristics. 4. Influence the dynamics of the total community. Successful completion of the challenges offered by the faculty should enable every student to become an excellent teacher. In implementing this mission, the University maintains a close relationship with the public schools in order to familiarize students with school procedures and to prepare them for entry into the teaching profession.
