Department of Sociology and Anthropology
UNF’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology is unique in its commitment to faculty-student research, providing the opportunity for undergraduates to present about their scholarly research at the Annual Undergraduate Student Symposium. The department is also heavily invested in community-based learning, offering students opportunities to learn in communities – from local to transnational – in ways that significantly transform their learning. Faculty-led research projects include inquiries into local repercussions of the Jaxport enterprise, anthropology of the Gullah/Geechee community, archaeological findings at the Timucuana Ecological and Historic Preserve and prehistoric sub-surface excavations in New Mexico.
