Freer and Sackler: The Smithsonian's Museums of Asian Art
Together the Freer and Sackler Galleries hold the nation?s largest Asian art research library and a diverse collection of works from across the Asian world.
The Freer Gallery of Art opened in 1923 and houses a vast collection that spans 6,000 years of Asian art history. It is physically connected by passageway to the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, which has offered access to permanent collections and revolving exhibitions of contemporary Asian art since its founding in 1987. These two galleries allow GW students to learn about the artwork of the East while just traveling a short distance from campus.
