Athletics at GW
Athletics
Offering 27 varsity sports, athletics is an integral part of GW campus life. George's Army, GW?s most devoted fan group, cheers side-by-side with alumni, faculty and staff as the Colonials take on top teams in the newly-renovated Charles E. Smith Center, at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park or on the Mount Vernon athletic fields.
Many teams boast conference championships, and the dedicated student-athletes raise high the buff and blue both on and off the field by participating in internships and community service and by earning top marks in the classroom. Club and intramural sports are also a cornerstone of the GW student experience, with ice hockey, horseback riding, ultimate Frisbee, karate and rugby among the most popular. GW's athletics teams are nicknamed the Colonials. The program's mascot is George and the school's official colors are buff and blue, patterned after George Washington's uniform in the Revolutionary War.
