As a centerpiece of GW student life and the premier college athletics facility in the DC area, the state-of-the-art Charles E. Smith Center is home to George Washington University's varsity sports teams, as well as many pivotal university events, including Freshman Convocation, Colonials Weekend and Commencement. Additionally, the Smith Center also houses practice space for club sports, classroom space for Exercise Science classes, and office space for the Department of Athletics and Recreation.
